Let's get the paper party started

the What's, the Why's and the Who's

Now, this has taken me some time to put together. Apologies for the delay. You’ve probably gotten to know me for my Paper Alf comments which contain some hopefully useful market commentary and obviously some “Charlie” bashing. Charlie stands for Charlatans & Liers for those who don’t know, and yes I know about the spelling.

Look, I didn’t venture onto the information superhighway without hopefully adding value here and there. Twitter is limiting in terms of word count but also difficult for followers to keep track of people’s opinions.

This way, I am hoping to be more useful to the peeps. 

The goal is clear: I want to be educational and fun at the same time. Opening my humble arsenal of some hopefully still valid knowledge from trading markets for 20+ years. 

As for my background, my career developed mainly within larger asset management institutions, trading global macro, interest rates, FX and its derivatives. I then co-founded my asset management company and sold the business in early 2021. 

Since then, I have been mainly focused on a variety of entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavours while managing my personal assets across three risk buckets: Long-Term Beta exposures (targeting 5-7% annual returns), VC/PE approach in investing in smaller companies (15-20% annual returns) and a macro trading book which is skewed to a more thematic process, using any available instrument (20%+ annual returns).

I always found it rewarding to help aspiring risk-takers as a mentor. I am still doing it privately with a few of the people I managed throughout the years. So the “Why” for me is to pass on the knowledge that can hopefully benefit anyone out there and their journey. 

Everything I have learned is basically self-thought, and that’s the way it should always be in anyone’s investing journey. I can’t do the heavy lifting for you, that’s all up to you. Humility is an important key to succeeding in the long term. I also want to pass on a few life lessons as it helps the perspective.

I will be publishing regular thought pieces and snippets as well as useful educational content that everyone will hopefully enjoy. I will be making them available over time.

I have no idea where this might take me. But why not try?
